چکیده

This paper deals with an overview and analysis of methods for inspecting surface quality. The overview is done by a new classification based on common mathematical concept yielding four groups of methods. First, techniques based on curvature, such as colour-coded map, lines of curvature, isolines of curvature, and focal surfaces are considered. They are followed by methods based on illumination models like isophotes, Iv-curves, reflection lines, highlight lines, and shaded-image rendering. Then, methods using special linear transformations are included: polar and orthonomic surfaces. The final methods studied are contour lines. At the end, the results of a comparative analysis of all considered methods, such as their suitability for determining continuities, inflection points, and convex/concave regions, their speed, sensitivity to surface changes, and invariance to geometric transformations, which could be very interesting and useful for a user, are presented

Simplified curve and surface interrogation via mathematical packages and graphics libraries and hardware

During the process of designing smoothly curved forms, it is important to have methods available for the assessment of shape quality. The advent of computer graphics has made it possible to perform curve and surface interrogation without the construction of a physical model. Methods have relied on renderings, starting with wireframe representations, and increasing in sophistication to today’s h...

Algorithms for Design and Interrogation of Functionally Gradient Material Objects

Solid Freeform Fabrication (SFF) processes have demonstrated the ability to produce parts with locally controlled composition. In the limit, processes such as Three-Dimensional Printing(3DP) can create parts with composition to the length scale of 100 μm. To exploit this potential, new methods for automatic design of Functionally Gradient Material (FGM) parts need to be developed. This paper pr...

Phase-Sensitive Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensors: Recent Progress and Future Prospects

Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is an optical sensing technique that is capable of performing real-time, label-free and high-sensitivity monitoring of molecular interactions. SPR biosensors can be divided according to their operating principles into angle-, wavelength-, intensity- and phase-interrogated devices. With their complex optical configurations, phase-interrogated SPR sensors generally...

Interrogation of a University Classrooms in the Court of Semantics: Managerial Implications

The purpose of this article, within the framework of an interpretive study, was to study the semantics of a universitychr('39')s classrooms to create a critical awareness of the meanings of the symptoms and their functions at the context of physical artifacts, besides their managerial implications. To accomplish this goal, after taking pictures of the structural elements of the studied classroo...

Fast reliable interrogation of procedurally defined implicit surfaces using extended revised affine arithmetic

Techniques based on Interval and Affine Arithmetic and their modifications are shown to provide reliable function range evaluation for the purposes of surface interrogation. In this paper we present a technique for the reliable interrogation of implicit surfaces using a modification of Affine Arithmetic called Revised Affine Arithmetic. We extend the range of functions presented in Revised Affi...

Temperature dependence of the sensitivity of a long-range surface plasmon optical sensor

The temperature dependence of the sensitivity of an optical sensor based on long-range surface plasmon resonance (LRSPR) is studied via theoretical modeling. Both the ‘angular interrogation’ and the ‘wavelength interrogation’ modes of operation are studied. In addition, the variation of the full width at half maximum of the LRSPR ‘reflectance dip’ is also studied as a function of temperature, w...
